The Council on Adolescents of Catabwa County follows State Competency Goals as mandated by the Department of Public Instruction of North Carolina.
Program Objective
Adolescence is a time of rapid physical, emotional, and social change.
Program Goals
Identify and understand functions of reproductive organs of males.
Identify examples of emotional changes.
Apply the skills of problem solving and communication in situations related to pressures from friends.
Develop strategies to make and keep friends.
Describe obesity and the dangers of unhealthy food choices.
Program Daily Outline
Day 1
Divide students by gender.
Complete pre-test.
Watch movie on puberty, about their own gender.
Review movie, answer questions.
Day 2
Divide students by gender.
Watch movie on puberty, about opposite gender.
Complete puberty quiz as a review with class
Day 3
Students remain with their regular mixed gender class
Play Healthy Choices Jeopardy, a game about friendship, peer pressure and exercise and nutrition.
