8th Grade: Pressures, Decisions, and Consequences

The Council on Adolescents of Catawba County follows State Competency Goals as mandated by the Department of Public Instruction of North Carolina.

Program Objective
Understanding the pressures and decisions with the accompanying consequences that teens commonly face and how teens can effectively recognize and deal with them.

Program Goals
To identify how choices influence future goals.
Develop understanding of male and female reproductive systems.
Apply skills for remaining abstinent about from sexual behavior.
Explore possible consequences of sexual behavior, such as pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Identify sexual boundaries in a sexual relationship.
Practice and discuss strategies for pressure situations.

Program Daily Outline
Day 1
Welcome and complete pre-test.
Small group activity on decisions and consequences of sexual behavior.
Dice Game, helps students process consequences of taking sexual risks.

Day 2
Describe male and female reproductive systems and pregnancy.
Discussion about no safe time for sex.
Movie “ Why Abstinence?  The Price Tag of Casual Sex.”

Day 3
Presentation on Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
Survivor Game on Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV

Media Influences
Role Play with examples to avoid pressure situations
Post test
