Abstinence means not engaging in any sexual behaviors that could result in an unintended pregnancy or a Sexually Transmitted Disease. These behaviors would include oral, vaginal, or anal sex, as well as some intimate touching.
What is ovulation and what does it have to do with pregnancy?
Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from a women's ovary. It is important because within a day or two of ovulation is the greatest chance of pregnancy. Ovulation can occur up to 2 years prior to a girl's first period and will happen once a month (normally about half way between periods).

Yes. This can occur because ovulation, or the release of an egg, may start up to two years before she actually begins her period.
